Yes. This is one of those books that should be on EVERYONE'S TBR list. A huge thank you to Penguin Random House for sending me an ARC of this gem. This is one in a lifetime type of book.
FEELS CAUSED?
Definitely. Intense ones too. The reality of Clemantine and Claire's life. . . leaves you lost for words and sad to say, so grateful you did not have to experience this. Leaves you wondering if you could have survived...
GRIPPING? KEEP YOU TURNING PAGES?
Very much so! It absorbs you into another life and world. It jars you. If you were looking for a book to turn you to memoirs, then this is the one. Loved it. So eloquent and the chapter switch from past to present along her time is flawless. Clemantine does an excellent job of giving you a peek into her world and the very raw emotions that she experienced. It all varies, it encompasses that of childlike innocence, purity, joy, and at the same time, sadness, rage, and destruction.
Clemantine's voice as fresh and raw and oh, so different.
WHY SHOULD YOU READ IT?
It passes all three categories with flying colors. With all the recent talk of immigrants, immigration laws, and immigrant ban, this memoir even though it is mainly about refugees is a good piece of literature to read about the topic. It offers those of us who have had a relatively comfortable life (not trying to minimize issues) to gain a peek of
