WORTH READING?

I am not into autobiographies but I knew I had to read Trevor's as soon as I read the title, and because I knew that from the brief times I had seen him on the Daily Show that his life was going to be interesting. And I was not wrong, I'm just sorry it took me this long to get to it. So if you want something that will have you laughing your ass off one minute then contemplating and appreciating life the next then this book is for you.

FEELS CAUSED?

There's a rainbow of them. Shock, sadness, gratitude, disbelief, intrigue, and the list can go on and on.

GRIPPING? KEEP YOU TURNING PAGES?

I listened to the audiobook version and it had me laughing so much that tears came to my eyes, had me stopping to truly contemplate thing, put so many things into perspective about how truly lucky most Americans are. The only problem with this was I was listening while at work. I became so absorbed and engrossed in the story that I could not hear my coworkers and they had to say my name more than once to get my attention.

The stories he told about his mother, his pirating business just had me boggled at his ingenuity and his mother's bravery, independence, and self-sacrifice. His mother life had me close to tears and had me thinking this is the type of mother that I want to be. And then there were parts of his story that I could totally relate to him such as the parts when he talks about his childhood and how 'he was good at being alone and he needed to remember to be with people' as that is me 100 percent. Also, the relationship described between his mother and him had me close to tears at some parts because it is so similar to the one I have with my mother.

Trevor's memoir is so captivating and powerful as not only does the way Trevor relays his experiences keep you hooked but it makes you contemplate your life as well., especially the way he describes life in South Africa. And it's not captivating in a way as if he's talking it up for a sales pitch but rather he is being realistic and talking about real things that happened and are possibly still happening to people. He paints a different picture than the one you would see if you were to go visit South Africa as a tourist. He also manages to add this reflective aspect to all his experiences that in turn has you stopping to reflect on yourself and your own experiences.

WHY SHOULD YOU READ IT?

Well, it checks the three categories of worth, feels, and attention-grabbing. Thus, if you like memoirs/autobiography or are looking for one to get you into the genre this is a good book for you to pick up. You should read this novel if you want a book to give you an array of emotions ranging from shock and sadness but mainly centered on hilarity/humor. And if you want a novel that also makes you think and analysis and ponder our social structure of the world and changes your first most likely misguided impression into something totally realistic and familiar. Born A Crime has all of these qualities and then some.
